First complete biocide-free system for boat hulls – from cleaning to protection
A new range with cleaner, primer and antifouling makes it possible to protect boat hulls entirely without biocides and mechanical cleaning – a step towards cleaner seas and lakes.
Skövde, 19 March 2026
Hripa is now launching a complete range of products for hull protection that are entirely free of biocides. The range includes cleaner, primer and antifouling and offers an integrated system that enables boat owners to replace traditional, toxic bottom paints.
The background is a growing need for sustainable alternatives in boating. Conventional antifouling paints often contain substances such as copper and other biocides that leach into the water and harm marine ecosystems. At the same time, awareness among boat owners and requirements from authorities, organisations and yacht clubs are increasing.
Unlike many existing alternatives on the market, Hripa has developed a complete system in which each step is designed to work together:
- A cleaner that effectively cleans the hull without burdening the environment
- A primer that ensures optimal adhesion and long durability
- An antifouling solution that combats fouling without toxic substances
By combining these three steps, a fully non-toxic process is possible – from preparation to finished protection.
What has been missing for a long time is an environmentally friendly product that is easy to use and actually works. Other solutions still require mechanical cleaning and scrubbing, but with our system nothing grows on the boats and all our products are completely free of toxins, says Daniel Lindström, board member of Hripa.
Beyond reduced environmental impact, the system means simpler application and less need for annual maintenance. Because the products are free of toxic substances, there is less need for extensive protective equipment and special safety measures during application. That makes the work both easier and safer for boat owners while reducing the risk of exposure to harmful substances.
By working in both coastal and inland waters, the solution addresses all of Swedish boating – from the archipelago to inland lakes – without compromising performance or environmental care.
The launch comes at a time when marine environment, toxic releases and sustainable boating are receiving growing attention. Several organisations and authorities have highlighted the need to reduce the spread of hazardous substances from leisure boats.
We see a clear shift in the industry where both boat owners and stakeholders want solutions that do not compromise the environment. Our ambition is to contribute to more sustainable boating without sacrificing function or ease of use, says Daniel Lindström.
The products are available from March through our resellers and are aimed at both leisure boat owners and professional operators.
